Raised Vegetable Gardens
Raised vegetable gardens have brought live to your backyard in the summer.
When winter is fast approaching does not mean that you have to leave your raised vegetable gardens behind. There are many raised gardens you can use for your winter vegetables so all you need to do is research the types of vegetables that will grow well in your garden. Some people live in areas where the winters are very mild and they can grow practically anything while others live in areas that are really cold and only certain vegetables will prosper during the winter months. When you begin choosing the vegetables for your winter garden you may want to talk to other winter gardeners to see what experiences they have had and to find out any suggestions they may have for planting winter vegetables. These are just some suggestions to help with raised bed gardens regardless of where you live.
A raised hill shape is preferred by many master gardeners because the shape allows enough water to stay in the bed and the extra to runoff without causing too much runoff. The shape is simply a slope in the center of the garden that slopes downward. If you do not feel comfortable shaping the garden bed on your own then you may buy a kit to help you do so. These are excellent and make garden shaping very easy. Of course, the crops you are planting will affect the shape of your raised garden. For example, if you want to use small seeded crops then it is a good idea to use a flat top bed.
